Webmaster's note: don't miss Scissors, page 2!
Welcome to our "Scissors Heaven!" We have an entire display case full of the most wonderful Solingen Steel Cutlery from Germany, unusual novelty scissors from France, top quality embroidery scissors from Italy -- just a wonderful array! We're highlighting a few here, and will be adding more to treat you! (I kind of have this "scissor thing"...) Featured here some styles from: Gingher, Dovo, Wasa, and some French and Italian importers. (Many have no names, per se, and since the invoices are often in German or Italian, I have no idea just what they call them! We just know that we LOVE them! So we've given all of them our own "SN numbers," to keep them straight!!!) I'll try to give you some info about each!!!
![]() Gingher Shears and Scissors
| |
![]() Here are this year's enaneled scissors by Gingher! Gingher describes Rynn as 'an organic, nature-inspired and balanced color palette which adds a calm, meditative energy to your collection.' Well, I'm not always calm when I'm cutting... but I DO love pretty scissors! Traditional Gingher quality in these, very nice, sturdy embroidery scissors for lightweight threads and heavy-duty dressmaker shears for fabrics. Limited Edition for 2021!
![]() Four Different Small Embroidery Styles Each comes with its own leather protective sheath for the blades. From left to right: Lion's Tail, Epaulette, Stork and Large-Handled. The first three are 3-1/2 inches in overall length, while the large-handled style is 4-inches... just a bit bigger - for a larger hand. Ginghers are generally on the more 'sturdy' end of our embroidery scissors. NEVER EVER cut paper with them. Cut nothing too heavy - like yarns (or you will loosen and ruin the tension screw) and DO NOT drop them. They'll give you years of good use! ![]() Cutting Recommendations for Shears: Moderate to heavy needlepoint and knitting yarns and fabrics. Never paper. |
![]() WASA Scissors What an exquisite treat we have in the shop!!! From the Solingen Valley of Germany, WASA is world-famous top-quality cutlery manufacturer -- a compliment to and competitor of DOVO! We have some new styles that we used to carry (but haven't been able to get for almost 10 years!) and some pretty new offerings! Stainless steel, hand-forged, gold plating decoration, razor-sharp blades and tips, smooth and 'buttery' cutting action... just like DOVO embroidery scissors... WASA delivers the excellence of German artistry you will LOVE! Each has the WASA name and Solingen embossed into the blades. Choose our Regular-sized leather sheaths for these -- not the Preemie/small size... the double-sized are OK... but a little large.
![]() SN21 The Buckingham A delicate little 3 1/2" scissor... the lightest weight we have... these are truly breathtaking! Such a pretty presentation! They cut beautifully, but are not for heavy weight threads or fabrics! These are a favorite for fancy needle cases and shadow box arrangements. ![]() Cutting Recommendations: Single or two-ply cotton or silk flosses and sewing threads. Knitting or needlepoint yarns, metallics, fabric, or perforated paper NEVER recommended. (Ginghers are the better alternative, as well as our selections on the following page.)
![]() Victorian Hearts by WASA of Solingen, Germany These come in a more rounded style - both are pretty and lovely to use. Both are 3 3/4". ![]() Cutting Recommendations: Single or two-ply cotton or silk flosses and sewing threads. Knitting or needlepoint yarns, metallics, fabric, or perforated paper NEVER recommended. (Ginghers are the better alternative, as well as our selections on the following page.)
![]() The 3-1/2 classic embroidery! These designs are from antique molds - they're all in museums now - so a very old, favorite design. SO special and elegant in your sewing cases and scissor collections! ![]() Cutting Recommendations: Single or two-ply cotton or silk flosses and sewing threads. Knitting or needlepoint yarns, metallics, fabric, or perforated paper NEVER recommended. (Ginghers are the better alternative, as well as our selections on the following page.)
![]() Lovely embroidery scissors, all are made in the Solingen Region of Germany... and area world-renown for top quality cutlery. All feature stainless steel cutting blades, and some have gold plating... just lovely! Excellent cutting action, smooth blades, with nice, sharp tips! The Storks - This is a classic embroidery scissor style... most commonly presented with gold handles and a gold bird! Beautiful little scissors, the blades are the bird's beak - very slender! Both are stainless - one has some gold plating, the other is classic shiny steel! And now we have a 3-1/2 inch silver stork and a gold 4 inch stork! Our 6-1/2 Inch Storks are razor sharp - just like their smaller counterparts. Just bigger, and more striking, this size is so unusual, just really a treat to hold and use! ![]() Cutting Recommendations: Single or two-ply cotton or silk flosses and sewing threads. Knitting or needlepoint yarns, metallics, fabric, or perforated paper NEVER recommended. (Ginghers are the better alternative, as well as our selections on the following page.) |
![]() Presenting Dr Slick Razor-Sharp Scissors ![]() Take a look at our comparison picture showing the difference between our DOVO embroidery scissors and the handles of these scissors. Dr Slick uses words like 'Hypodermic Tips' and Tungsten Carbide to describe his scissors. They cut like a dream, and you need them! In trying to decide which ones to get... you really can't go wrong with any of them. Only the Synthetics - #SN65 - really stand out as a different style and feel from the rest. Here are our favorites so far! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

![]() These are 3-1/2 inch stainless, and feature a softly curved handle shape. What makes them so pretty is the special finish... a marbling of translucent gold, black and cinnamon colors all bonded onto the metal. Not dipped or air-brushed... this finish is ON THERE! So pretty, I've never seen anything like these! Very well balanced, nice and sharp, a smooth cutting action, these are just a really nice little pair of scissors! (Not to mention how good they'll look in stitched scissor cases!) Love, love the colors! Ocean Blue is the color of the Caribbean! Deep aqua, green and blues... simply delightful! These need to garnish every nautical/beachy scissor fob or sewing case you have! ![]() Cutting Recommendations: Single or two-ply cotton or silk flosses and sewing threads.
