4 *New* Samplers
Kathleen Littleton has redone 4 gorgeous samplers... love, love, love reading the history included with each of these... and the design quirks that make them extra special! Her charts are lovely - she gives you an overview pic of the entire chart, then presents it across several pages - but on big sheets of heavy, glossy paper. VERY nicely done patterns.
  • Jean Donaldson 1826 - Lots of special stitch bits in here, lots of Scottish flavor, it's charted for silk or DMC and finishes approx 8 x 12 on F & R's 40ct Hogbristle Linen. The sampler is hard to see in the cover pic... but it's really pretty.
  • Woman at a Pond - An unfinished piece, it features 10 different alphabets... and has a woman sitting by a pond - holding her stitching! Kathleen thinks this is from the early 1800's, and it's extra-charming because the fabric is actually pieced together - probably because linen was so precious a find! 17 x 12 On 40ct linen.
  • Sarah Williams 1864 - Little 11-yr old Sarah frequently changed colors and stitch counts in her piece... the entire thing is not symmetrical at all! Originally stitched in wool, there are DMC and silk conversions; this measures237 x 242. Kathleen has a picture of the church featured in the sampler inside the instructions, along with lots of history about Sarah's family, the town, the school... it's so much fun to read... and makes the sampler so much more special. The sampler history info is printed beautifully on glossy stock paper, so you could include it attached to the back of your framed piece!
  • Catherine Armstrong 1856 - Kathleen doesn't know much about this gorgeous piece... but possibly American because it came from an auction in Pennsylvania. Luscious flowers, the whole thing was stitched with wools on loosely woven linen reminiscent of the lined paper children learn penmanship on. WE have an antique sampler hanging in our She Shed Classroom that has those 'blue-grey' linen threads running through it. You could stitch those in, or not... either way, the sampler is gorgeous! 12 x 15 on 36ct.

Antique Pattern Album
from Cross Stitch Antiques
This is a charted collection of 26 antique sampler plates - you get some of the colored and some of the blue monochromatics in here.

Coded for DMC, the idea is to create your own sampler using various motifs from the antiques!
